The COVID-19 pandemic has been defined as a syndemic because both its origin and its effects involve elements of a different nature: biological factors, social and spatial inequalities, and ecosystem relations. Its effects on the city and the territory reveal and amplify structural crisis factors and, at the same time, highlight the need for profound changes, which concern a multiplicity of aspects and actors.
This special issue proposes to publish interdisciplinary texts to shed light on this problem from different points of view and to provide critical analyses and proposals for new forms of social and spatial organisation capable not only of responding to the threats of contagion, but also of tackling the complex of crises induced by the current development model.
